Ce film constitue une source d’informations capitale sur l’œuvre de David Hockney. L’artiste est filmé dans son univers quotidien, son atelier d’Hollywood, alors qu’il réalise une série de peintures consacrées au Grand Canyon, qui synthétisent ses recherches sur l’espace et le paysage.
Pour la première fois, David Hockney donne les clés de son processus de création et commente de manière lumineuse les enjeux de son travail. On le suit lorsqu’il retrouve les paysages colorés de son Yorkshire natal.
A travers des extraits d’archives rares, nous accédons aux différents univers de son oeuvre (décors d’opéra, photo-collages), opérant un retour à ce Swinging London où tout a commencé

This film is a vital source of information on the work of
David Hockney who is filmed in his everyday world, at his Hollywood studio, as he works on a series of Grand Canyon paintings, a synthesis of his research into space and landscape.
For the first time, David Hockney provides the key to his creative process and gives an illuminating commentary on the challenges of his work.
We also accompany him back to the colourful landscapes of his native Yorkshire. His enthusiasm, joy and humour shine through during these interviews in which the artist gives us a very personal and moving insight into his life and work.
He also takes us for a musical drive through some of his favourite landscapes. Rare archive footage shows a few highlights of Hockney’s prolific career, from Swinging London – where it all started – to opera sets and photographic collages.
